Conversations & tracing

Every conversation an agent has is recorded so you can review it later. Open an agent and go to its Conversations to see the list, then open any one to read the full exchange and inspect exactly what the agent did.
Conversations live per agent, under the agent’s Operate area. Reviewing them requires the Admin role.

Read the transcript

Opening a conversation shows the transcript — the back-and-forth between the person and the agent, in order, including any handoff to a human. This is the plain-language view: what was asked, and what the agent said back.

Inspect the trace

Switch from the transcript to the trace to see how the agent produced each turn. The trace breaks a turn into its steps and shows:
  • The tools the agent called and the arguments it used.
  • The results each tool returned.
  • Privileged actions — governed, audited actions (a password reset, a record update) are called out so you can see when the agent acted on the organization’s behalf.
You can move turn by turn, and toggle between the transcript and the trace, so you can read a conversation as a person would and then drop into the detail when something looks off.
When an agent gives an answer you didn’t expect, the trace usually explains it — you’ll see which tool was (or wasn’t) called and what it returned. That’s the fastest way to tell a knowledge gap from a configuration problem.

From a number to a conversation

The per-agent reporting Overview links recent conversations directly, so you can go from a metric straight into the exchange behind it and then into its trace.
  • Reporting — the volume and trends these conversations roll up into.
  • How Cobalt works — how tools and turns fit together.
